In the old port area of Rio de Janeiro in the neighborhood of Gamboa, one can discover all the magic behind Carnaval in the so-called Samba City Joãosinho Trinta.
With warehouses full of exhibitions, costumes, and floats from the Special Group schools, Samba City was founded in 2006 to give curious wanderers an opportunity to observe the process of making and assembling the visual and artistic elements of the Parades.
One of the largest samba schools - Acadêmicos da Grande Rio - opens its doors year round to host the Carnival Experience. This experience includes tours of their warehouse, samba workshops, carnival shows, exhibitions, and seminars. The tours are guided by members of the junior samba school Pimpolhos da Grande Rio - an initiative of the "mother school" to promote social inclusion, and to educate through art, culture, and carnival. Carnival Experience activities are geared towards families, tourist groups and companies.
There are also several bars and restaurants in the surroundings and it's also possible to book the venue for private events.
